Writer & Editor

has been writing, editing and designing newlsetters, brochures, proposals, reports, marketing and promotion materials, event invitations, press releases and press kits for more than 10 years. She began as an undergraduate campus publication managing editor and writer while obtaining her B.A. During graduate school Ms. Hurston began teaching college and adult-level community education courses. She has also worked as a research and editorial assistant on academic manuscripts and publications. She provides research, writing, editing and project design consulting services for individuals, educational, nonprofit, arts, human service and community organizations, foundations and businesses with a special focus on nonprofit and community based projects.

Her experience includes writing, editing, designing, producing publications, proposals, newsletters, press releases, press kits and fundraising materials for numerous organizations including campaigns and events featuring artists and entertainers such as Melissa Etheridge, David Crosby & Stephen Stills, Phoebe Snow, Muhammed Ali, Cedric the Entertainer, Victoria Rowell, Frank Romero, Judy Baca, and Kim Dingle.

Business, political, educational, institutional and private clients have included:

KLSX Radio’s Dr. X and “Shrink Rap,” the Claremont Graduate School, the Community College Foundation and the State of California, Pacific Oaks College, Los Angeles Unified School District, Healing Light Center Church, L.A. Graphic Artist

has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Florida, Gainesville and an Associate of Arts Degree from Miami Dade Community College. She is fluent in illustration, design, fine arts and print media. Maya has won several awards for her creative, inspiring and elegant art projects.

Maya’s creative tools include a wide repertoire of cutting edge graphic arts software on both Mac and Windows platforms: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Streamline, Golive, Image Ready, Quark XPress, Microsoft Office 2001. As an accomplished artist Maya also draws upon her technical skills in Watercolor Painting, Acrylic Painting, Pen and Ink Illustrations, Monoprinting, Drypoint, Collograph and Silkscreen.

Both have practical and professional experience working in the arts, nonprofits, education, business and retail settings as well as working toward completing the Real Estate Sales Associate licensing course to better meet the needs of Real Estate clients and the highly comptetitive, rapidly changing profession.
